Two Thursdays ago I received a confidential phone call from the girls Elementary school letting me know they both won "THE" Limousine ride around town for the number of participants on their dragon dash sheets.
I guess I should back up a bit.
A month ago Kelly Elementary announced the third annual dragon dash for the school. This is a fundraiser in which the children ask neighbors family and parents to sponsor them while they run for 15 minutes with their peers in the school gym. Each child gets to participate in the run no matter how much or how little they've raised. At the end 6 winners are announced: 3 with the highest amount raised and 3 with the most sponsors no matter the amount. The winners get the coveted Limo ride.
When Emma found out the winners received a Limo ride -she became determined to win! She immediately formulated a plan to ask neighbors AND a small community...the Bucknell Men's Rowing Team.
When the last dollars and .37 Centers were collected and counted each girl had $26.37 BUT had 49 sponsors! Thank you men!
I met the girls at school when their names were announced as two of the six winners and their faces glowed with joy.
So for 30 minutes they gallivanted around town in a fancy black limousine while eating out of goodie bags filled with candy pretzels fruit chews and water. Every 6 year old's dream! Every 35 year old's dream.
A week later(last Friday) their picture graced the cover of our hometown newspaper "The Daily Item". Once again they re-lived the excitement from the week before and the excitement of being in the newspaper.
