First Crush

Last week Emma got a new notepad and pen from a friends birthday party. Instead of using the notepad for doodling and coloring as usual she decided it would be her new Journal.
I absolutely love that my children have intentions to journal at such a young age. I vividly remember recieving my first journal as a birthday gift when I turned 10. Now I have a box in the attic full of journals documenting my teenage years through my late twenties.
Even before my first real journal I had notepads like the girls. The first several entries I ever wrote in them were about my first crushes and of course my true love-"I Love Micheal Jackson"-was written over and over. Yes-the pop star. The album Thriller was out and he was the Justin Bieber of the 80's.
You know you loved him to!

So back to Emma-her first entry-like mine- is about her first crush. She's asked me not to tell anyone including his mother. So I have to keep my promise. I can tell you she has written over and over "I love C---" with big and little hearts drawn around it.

I can't help but smile and think about my first crushes in Kindergarten. I tell Emma about them and she giggles...but more importantly I want her to know from an early age that I'll always be here to talk to her and support her in everything. Including boys.

When the crushes lead to dating 10 years from now.....I'm letting Paul take over.
