When Ava got off the bus on Thursday she told me there were some very important papers in her folder and she wanted to show me.
I thought it would be a cute piece of artwork or maybe the lunch calender.
Nope...it was information along with a "penny saver box" talking about children who have been afflicted with Leukemia.
The box is to collect penny's then donate the money to the organization helping Leukemia patients.
Ava started asking me questions about Leukemia and why some children get it. The only thing I could do is tell her the truth as gently as possible and let her know how the money helps with research and medicine.
Ava made a big sad sigh...then headed straight to her room. She came down two minutes later asking for tape and scissors. I decided to go check out what was happening.
Ava was taping her "penny saver box" to reinforce it as she had taken ALL the money from her piggy bank and put it in the box.
Later that night she asked to say the dinner prayer. In great sincerity and reverence she asked Heavenly Father to "bless and help heal all the children with Leukemia and if they don't make it please take care of them while they're with You."
Tears came to my eyes as she finished and I felt so blessed to have such a wonderful- thoughtful -compassionate child who loves all people so effortlessly and who realizes that when we do pass on there is Someone who loves us and WILL take care of us on the other side.
