"You've got your hands full"

I have always been very independent when it comes to my children. I take them everywhere. In fact I haven't gone grocery shopping by myself in over 6 years. I have never complained and now feel shopping would be a bit boring without my children.

In the six years I've toted my children around I constantly get the comment

"You've got your hands full".

I would be a rich woman if I got a Dollar for every time someone said this to me. In fact, I would be $6 richer just today.

It's a bit ironic the people who comment are in their golden years. Isn't this the generation without nannies and babysitters? Weren't most women stay-at-home mothers? Didn't they take all their children with them when they went to the store?

Perhaps they say it because they don't see it as often. Maybe it's because I do have twins. And why is it always the same comment?

None-the-less, I love hearing it. It kind of validates I'm doing a great job multi-tasking with the everyday chores, including shopping.

  1. I totally agree with you on the grocery shopping thing. I hate going alone...it's so boooooring! :) And why do they always say the same thing over and over? I saw a tshirt once (it was actually an autism tee or something). It said, "If you think my hands are full...you should see my heart!" That would be a great comeback! :)

  2. I would've been $10 richer today. I took my very active 14 month old twins to Wal-mart and everyone stared and everyone told me that I have my hands full! I wish I could also get a $ every time someone asked me if my Emma and Ben were identical! I just look at them and say, "No. Emma has girl parts and Ben has boy parts!"
